Olive Summer

I know, I know, it’s a terribly silly play on words, but I really do love summer. Especially weekends like this last one. A day off with friends on Friday with amazing lake weather, followed by an intense evening storm that all but eliminated any chance for humidity the rest of the weekend. That lead to wonderful mornings and breezy days, comfortable enough on Sunday to throw on this tunic and pants and take a little drive in the beautiful countryside. I purchased this tunic thinking that the color and style would be best in the early fall, but I love to sport a little olive hue after a few sun-kissed days.

Pattern Mixing

I do most of my shopping online, and when I do visit a store it’s usually for a quick run-through to see if anything catches my eye. Every once in a while I’ll spot something right when I walk in, even if across the room. This was one of those pieces, and it’s easy to see why – with the bold pattern mixing of stripes and florals, fun full skirt and cool exposed zipper. It leans a little fancier than my usual style, as I like dresses to work for the office as well as after hours and this is more fitting for a different occasion. But even as a busy working mom, I have a few events peppered here and there in the summer, and this will be perfect.

Coconut Ice Cream and Bourbon Butterscotch Sauce

I find that there are a few things common in nearly all Martha Stewart recipes. (1) The pictures are beautiful. (2) The food is delicious (even if I don’t make it, you can pretty much taste it through the photos). (3) At least one aspect of the directions I either don’t understand, or don’t execute correctly if attempted (I suppose the latter is a predictable result of the former). Coconut ice cream is my all-time favorite though, so when I saw this recipe I decided to give it a whirl. The original recipe link is here for your reference, and I’ve also included it below (along with the Reality Check, which has my advice for shortcuts and the steps I will definitely take the next time I make this!).
