White Christmas

And by white, I mean the button-down. We’ve had an unusual amount of rain lately in Minnesota, making for a very un-white Christmas.  It’s a bummer in some ways, but it was nice for ease of holiday shopping and travel these last few days. For this holiday look, I paired a simple white button-down shirt with a full black skirt and brightly colored accessories.

Overcast Overrun

We are in the midst of an impressively long stretch of overcast skies in Minneapolis, with the only changeup in the weather occurring with different variations of what happens with the moisture in the air, such as dense fog like in these pictures, or full-on rain, as was the case for most of yesterday. It’s weather that makes you want to feel cozy in whatever you’re wearing and it seems natural to mimic the colors of what surrounds you. I love the soft feel of this comfy cream sweater, and how I can layer it with casual yoga gear or dress it up by pairing it with nicer alternatives, such as this black shift and tights.

Slacker Pants

A few Christmases ago, my mom gave my husband some pants that were actually called “Slacker Pants.” The description online states “Be sweatpants-comfy without looking schlumpy. Sunday Slacker Pants are broken-in soft for lounging around the house. Yet nice enough for running out to the store.” I’m not really sure about being fit to head out to a store, but I have no real concern with that being tested by Trevor, especially on a Sunday. But I digress. The point is, these are my slacker pants. Sweat pants in disguise. I first discovered Pilcro pants last winter, primarily because of an interesting pattern that caught my eye. Then I tried them on – super cozy, stretchy and soft. They are my go-to pants for weekends when I need to be nimble to do anything from head to a brunch, wrestle with my kids, run into the office or around town for errands, or maybe (on super rare but awesome occasions) steal a nap – all without changing my outfit. I also can wear them to work without looking, well, schlumpy. They don’t violate the office dress code by looks, but they should by feel.
