Sunny Yellow

It’s a bit of a drag when the forecast calls for a 100% chance of rain, which is what we have on tap today in Minneapolis. These are the days I often reach for something bright to wear for the day. I love this sunshine yellow color for summer, and this style is more versatile than it looks. On the occasions when I have something planned immediately after work – which doesn’t involve making dinner for the kiddos or running them to an activity – I like to have outfits that can take me straight from the office to out for the evening, without a stop home. A “quick stop” home is never quick. Something like this dress looks great under a cardigan or jacket at the office but transitions well to a patio with a glass of wine and a girlfriend. Well, a covered patio on a day like today, but you get my point.

Work to Weekend Dress

Late last fall I wrote a post about some pants that I love, primarily because they are like sweatpants in disguise, they’re so comfortable. This is the dress version. The cut and the fabric couldn’t be better, and with jewelry and heels it can be dressed up enough for the office. But for the most part summer for me is about flip flops and pared down accessories, so when I walk into the house at the end of the day or hop into the car for the lake on a Friday, I love for a dress to be able to go straight from the office to off the clock.

The Skirt Scene

Pleated, longer length skirts are everywhere this season, and although I love the look of a full-bodied midi, they just look odd on me. And trust me, I’ve tried on my fair share this spring! I finally found this cute one in a super versatile navy (my favorite color). It’s on trend – although perhaps not the super trendy mid-calf length – and tough to pass up at under $50 (with a discount). The shirt is probably over a decade old, but the classic navy and white stripe look is one of my favorites so I never part with this staple. Check out the “Currently Craving” sidebar to see the midis I’m loving if only I had the extra budget and the extra two or three inches of leg.
