Tiny Temperature, Big Scarf

I held out for a long time on purchasing a long puffer coat, which is pretty much the uniform of all Minnesota women in winter. But I did last season and I admit – I’m not sure how I did without one for so long, since I wear it almost every day. So on the occasion where it’s a touch warmer or if we have a bit of bright sun, I’ll opt for a chunky scarf to get me to and from the car, like on this quick date with Trevor. Just to mix it up a bit. And on the days when it’s particularly chilly, this is the look I will sport in the office during the day, as well. I love to have a big scarf that I can wrap around my neck, shoulders, or even my lap if needed. And on the days I’m hustling from meeting to meeting, it can sit on the back of my chair.

Sale Season

One of the benefits of living in a state where the change of season doesn’t happen in sync with the retail world’s switch from winter to spring is that I can take full advantage of the sales. I can walk right past the linen pants and silk sleeveless tops and head back to the down puffer jackets, now at 70% off. Items that would be a tough sell before (I hardly “need” another winter coat) suddenly become no-brainers when such a steal.

Patchwork Pants

Anthropologie had some funky patchwork jeans late last summer/early fall, which I looked at many times but eventually decided not to buy. I couldn’t see myself being able to pull off the look at the office, even on casual Friday, and that’s usually my test – if it’s not really suitable to wear in all facets of my life, I don’t usually make the purchase. But a few weeks ago I was lucky and honored to be chosen by Anthropologie in an Instagram contest for the Pilcro brand, for which I received a pair of my choosing. I opted for this season’s patchwork pattern – why not? Still pretty limiting, but it’s good to step out of your comfort zone once in a while.
