Primary Colors

It’s hard to believe that I’ve had a few months of outfit posts without a single tunic, as they are my shirt style of choice. I started wearing them a few months into my first pregnancy, when purchasing clothes that elongated my midsection became a focus for me. The excitement over seeing my tummy grow was quickly followed up by a realization that other areas – primarily my hips and bum – were expanding as well. Unfortunately, in a somewhat perpendicular direction from the baby bump. The tunic style has lingered as my preferred type of top, likely because so too have lingered the hips and bum. Babies or no, I think a tunic is a flattering look for many women. I tend to seek it out when shopping and reach for one in my closet on a regular basis. When I find one I like, such as this number from Boden, I’ll grab it in a couple of colors (I have the basic navy as well as the more trendy floral). This one has a nice structure to it, with the rolled collar and the front pockets, yet is made of a super comfy, sweatshirt-like material. Good for keeping toasty these coming months!

Red Accents

We went with a straightforward, unfussy approach to the cabin design. We added a pop of color with bright red screen doors and sconces, and it’s my favorite part of the exterior. It reminded me of my approach to outfits on most days, so I went with it for these photos – shades of black, gray and white with a touch of red.  The faux leather in the top and the length of the skirt would usually have me nix it as a work appropriate outfit, but pairing it with a white button down, tights and booties takes it in a more conservative direction, such that I would be comfortable wearing this look to the office.

Fall Colors

The fall colors may have arrived late this year in Minnesota, but when they did they were spectacular. Vibrant and rich and varied. A great backdrop to this mostly black outfit, with pops of color in the piping of the sleeves and in the accessories. Much like the sentiments I shared about vests in this earlier post (link here), I’ve resisted the poncho trend, but they are pretty awesome in any of the many situations now and over the course of the next several months when there is an extra chill in the air.
