4th of July

With the exception of a fleeting thought here and there that summer is half over, there is nothing but happy to be had on the 4th of July holiday. It’s generally the longest weekend we spend at the cabin over the summer, the boat parade is always a hit with the kids, and all concerns over kids’ bedtimes, sugar intake (for kids as well as adults), etc. seem to fly out the window for a few days. The wildfires in Canada may have turned the blue skies this year to a hazy gray, but the day was filled with a ton of fun. I’ve included a few pictures from last Saturday, as well as some favorites from the past several 4th of July celebrations.

Summer Staple

Earlier this spring I wrote about a dress that was my favorite travel dress, but the brand is really my summer staple for so many occasions. From travel to a work meeting to chaperoning a hot and sticky field trip to heading out on date night – the “will not wrinkle” nature of these dresses make them a perfect choice for wherever I’m headed. The fabric and patterns on the dresses hide two other key things – sweat and stains – both realities on most summer days for me!

Jude Connally dress (similar style and print here, also love this one and the tunic version) | Hobo clutch (navy sold out, red on sale here) | Kate Spade necklaces | Tory Burch sunglasses | Anthropologie earrings (old, love these from this season) | Michael Kors watch | Melly bracelet | Madewell bracelet | Lilly Pulitzer shoes

Quick and Easy Décor for the 4th

Need a splash of holiday décor for this weekend? Here’s a fun centerpiece idea, using only a couple of materials – easy, quick and inexpensive! The red and white stripes are perfect for the 4th of July holiday, but will work well throughout the summer and could be incorporated into winter decorating as well. What brings to mind a flag’s stripes one season just as easily can remind us of candy canes in another!
