Weekend Wear

The weekend wear is pretty consistent in the Olson family, especially on weekends such as this past one, where the temperature and wind chill dictate staying cozy and comfortable indoors. The kids keep on PJs, which are so cute I see no reason not to wear them throughout the day. The adults switch out of pajamas to sweats, which are a notch up from our pajamas in that they give the appearance that we attempted to get dressed, even if they feel pretty much the same as what we changed out of in the morning. I purchased this “sweat suit” because on looks alone it appeared to be super comfortable, and I was happy to later read about the mission and the approach of the brand, Threads for Thought.

Paint by Numbers

My mom purchased this Animal ABC Book (circa 1935) almost 40 years ago, being drawn to Milo Winter’s artwork. The book was in really rough shape (see photo below of the back cover), having been well-loved, with almost every page having the scribbling handiwork of some child long ago. There was one page that was still pristine and it happened to have the letters J and K on it.  Her plan was to frame the picture for my room when I was a little girl (my maiden name is Jensen).  However, the colors never worked out so the book remained unused.  Recently, she decided to refurbish the front cover by painting it with acrylic paints – a twist on the paint by number approach, if you will – mixing colors to match what was depicted on the cover or in some cases, going a different direction by changing the color and pattern (note the mommy bunny’s dress in the first picture compared to the others). The effort created a super cute piece to frame, perfect for our playroom.

In Between

The weather this time of year has a little bit of an identity crisis. Some days it’s sunny and chilly, others it’s cloudy and warm (relatively speaking); it snows on some days and is completely dry and clear the next. Layering becomes key, and I often reach for cardigans, wearing them as coats on the milder days – particularly if I’m toting kids and bags (mine and theirs) around, which always raises my body temperature a good notch or two. I’m a big fan of the longer length, and was recently complaining to a girlfriend that a few I liked were in the $200 – $300 range, which is just crazy. I found this one at Gap – a great style, super comfy and a great price.
