Cheers, 2014!

2014 was a great year, and I’ll raise my glass in a happy toast to it tomorrow night. Today’s post gives you a glimpse at some of the moments from this year, many of which were included on our recent holiday card – but in this version you don’t have to squint to see the images.

IMG_0826_edited-3There weren’t any pictures of just the two of us on our holiday card, but it seems odd not to note our 15-year wedding anniversary, celebrated on this night out in Minneapolis. Married 15 years. How is that possible?

I’m not sure why I love this picture so much, but I think it has to do with Ella wearing her brother’s hand-me-down footed PJs, shoved into pink Crocs.
DSC_0777_edited-2Old fashioned summer fun – staying up late, riding a Big Wheel, water balloons…what else does a kid need?

DSC_0096_edited-1This picture makes me tear up every time I look at it. This little man wanted nothing to do with jumping off the dock in the beginning of the summer – or much to do with the water at all, for that matter. This was the image of Taylor at the end of the summer, at every opportunity he could grab.
DSC_0399_edited-1We had a long swimming season at the lake this year. And by “we” I mean the kids and Trevor. This picture was taken on September 20th. The water felt dang cold to me, but man did they have fun. I love this picture of Ella because you can tell that she is smiling through her shivers.

DSC_0942_edited-1DSC_0860_edited-1DSC_2452_edited-1DSC_0264_edited-1I love this picture and the rush of feelings it brings to me about these three and the wonderful memories of this year.

Reality Check. This isn’t really so much a full year captured as much as it is a “time since we started to take our camera with us because of the blog” captured. We’ve always had the camera and we’ve always had fun (I mean, the kids didn’t just start hugging each other this past summer), but there was always a reason or excuse not to lug the camera with us. This year’s holiday card was a collage of many of the pictures you see above – prior years we have scrambled to find just one picture of the two kids together. I’m so happy that we now make the effort, and I’m thankful to all of you out there reading this and supporting Darling Fig. I hope you are concluding 2014 in happiness in good health and are looking forward to an even better 2015!

Love the photos, especially the hand me down jammies, so sweet. Also, I think my new years resolution is going to include getting to the pizza barn. It always sounds like a good idea, but I never actually get there.

That is a fantastic resolution. (: That was one of those trips that we kind of forced ourselves to take – we were rushed, it wasn’t great weather (when leaving Minneapolis), the kids weren’t that jazzed about it, etc. etc. but it was well worth the trip. Highly recommended!

    Hi you guys,
What a couple cute kids you have. Of course the good looking parents had alot to do with that. Thanks for coming to my retirement party. You have a great New Year and hopefully we can share a couple drinks sometime.

So fun to see your comment! I actually just dropped the real deal (Christmas card) in the mail to you today (very timely, I know). SUCH a fun party the other weekend – thanks for including us! This cold makes me want to weasel our way in to the Cayman trip – drinks there sound pretty fantastic! ( :
